SHANE BOWDEN
Born March 7, 1974 | Brisbane, Australia
Lives and works in Sydney, Australia & Camogli, Italy
Shane Bowden is a contemporary Neo-Expressionist and Pop artist, photographer, and printmaker known for his bold, vibrant silkscreen works that echo the spirit of Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg.
From 2001 to 2019, Bowden lived and worked in the USA and Japan, gaining international recognition for his energetic, color-drenched style. His synoptic layering of silkscreen imagery recalls the visual language of the 1960s—merging collage, spontaneous material juxtapositions, raw contours, and sweeping paint gestures.
This interplay of Pop Art and action painting continues to define his singular space within contemporary art—where the boundary between life and art dissolves.
Returning to Sydney in 2019, Bowden reignited his practice with renewed passion and a deeper artistic vision. His current body of work fuses Pop Abstraction with Neo-Expressionism, exploring themes rooted in travel, culture, and human connection. Layered palettes collide with charcoal sketches, expressive line work, and oil stick interventions—resulting in works that are both wildly intense and visually harmonious.
A mercurial figure, Bowden defies categorization, constantly evolving his visual language and embracing an intuitive, fearless approach to art-making.
